News for the Diocese

A Message for the Diocese from the Chapter of St Paul’s

St Paul’s Cathedral is first and foremost the Cathedral Church for the Diocese of London.
It’s good to welcome groups from the parishes in the course of every year and we hope this message might serve as an invitation to individuals, to parish groups, to schools, and to other organisations thoughout the diocese to come and see something of the life and work of the Cathedral.

St Paul’s is a busy place and the work of recent years in cleaning, repairing and restoring the building now enables all of use to see something of that rich heritage of architecture that we enjoy. Our hope at St Paul’s is that every visit might also provide an introduction to that rich heritage of faith and worship in which we stand.

Making a Pilgrimage to St Paul’s
There are several ways in which this is possible.

First of all, you may wish to join us at one of the services on or near the day in which we pray for you in the Diocesan Cycle of Prayer. If you plan to be present at Cathedral Evensong, please let us know so that we can welcome you publicly. At Evensong (normally sung at 5.00 pm, but please check alterations to that in advance) it is possible that:
- Clergy and readers may robe and may wish to read a lesson.
- You may wish to bring a parish banner and walk in the procession.
- Children, youth groups, servers, etc may also wish to take a special part in the service.

You are also very welcome to bring a specialist group, preparing for Confirmation, for example. We have some facilities we can offer from our Education Department for that, and clergy here are available to help in any way we can.

It is also possible for you to make the pilgrimage as a parish group and to celebrate the Eucharist in the Cathedral. We are happy to respond to any requests for space and time for you to worship in your own distinctive way.

It is your Cathedral. You are welcome. There is no charge for parish groups or individuals making a pilgrimage visit.

If you wish to know more, please do not hesitate to contact the Canon Pastor, The Rt Reverend Michael Colclough: pastor@stpaulscathedral.org.uk
